Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In the aftermath of the Panchayat elections in West Bengal, violence shows no signs of abating. In a tragic incident, a 65-year-old woman, Khatoon Bewa, who was a Congress worker, was allegedly beaten to death by Trinamool Congress members in Domkal, Murshidabad district.
The altercation reportedly erupted on Saturday, leading to a physical confrontation resulting in Khatoon Bewa's injuries. Despite being rushed to the hospital and later transferred to Baharampur Medical College, she succumbed to her injuries on the way.
Both Trinamool Congress and the family of the deceased have differing accounts of the incident, with the former denying any involvement in the attack. The family alleges that the killing was driven by electoral rivalry.
The state continues to witness violent incidents even after the elections, with recent deaths reported on Friday involving a Trinamool Congress supporter and an independent candidate's supporter. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has now directed the formation of the Panchayat Board by August 16, but violence and allegations of intimidation against opposition party members persist.
